This is a Sample Worksheet that I ask the Dads to look over, consider and answer.
One of my goals as a doula is to assist a couple in such a way that both parents have a satisfying labor and birth experience. The presence and support of a Husband is priceless and I am committed to remaining aware to promoting the value of a husband's support during labor. In order for me to do so, I believe that open dialogue about the Father's expectations of his role and my role at the labor and birth are important. Therefore, I am hoping this worksheet to be beneficial and encouraging.
In order for my service to the couple to be most effective and productive, I think it is
important to discuss the following questions prior to the onset of labor. In this way there is no confusion and the father can have the opportunities to maximize his efforts to his beautiful laboring wife!
Questions for the Father:
How much and to what extent would like to be involved in the birth:
How do you envision the doula and the father working as a team to best care for the mother?:
How do you see yourself supporting your wife:
How can be of support to you too?:
Below is a Chart that I ask the Dad to circle or comments one one the place that best describes he sees himself and the doula fit into the support team.
